My Most Profound Realizations of 2008

The following is a list of several realizations I have come to over the past year. Some of them might now make sense (I elaborated as little as possible but if you're really confused, just ask) and some of them are obviously meant to be taken more seriously than others. Mostly I'm just bored and need something to do right now. Anyway, here's the list:
  • Opposites don't attract. We attract lovers who are every bit as broken as we are and in the end they will leave us worse (not better) off than when they found us.
  • Those strange and sometimes seemingly unfounded and illogical thoughts that you suppress usually contain some truth. If you ignore them, you'll later find this little light bulb going off inside your head and want to scream "DUH!" quite loudly!
  • Eating disorders are so much the norm in our society, but the majority of women are in denial. In truth, almost every woman I know suffers from some form of disordered eating but most of them think they're perfectly normal (and in truth, they are normal because we as a society are that messed up).
  • Nobody can save you from yourself; nobody.
  • That goes both ways. You can't save somebody else from their demons, they have to do it.
  • Love is best compared to a noose around your neck.
  • Rebound water retention is NOT a myth. Lax abusers and diuretic junkies take note.
  • Cupid is the one that can drive an otherwise logical, well-adjusted woman to absolute stupidity. For that reason alone, he must be stopped!
  • College is an obscene waste of money in most people's cases (including mine).
  • It's easy to talk about how desperately you want to be healthy when you're lying in a hospital bed with needles in your arms.  You'd be amazed how determined you are to lose weight again as soon as you feel half-way human.
